KINGS OF JUNGLE AND OF FUTSAL

January 27, 2013

Chatham, NJ

The Den of Lions started off the early-morning U12 boys 3v3 futsal tournament with intense energy and skills so suave.  After comfortable wins over some of the teams, the Den of Lions 1 boys prowled into the finals, hoping to meet their allies, Den of Lions 3.  Much to 3’s surprise, the qualifying game against Hoboken All Stars threw them for a loop with aggressive offense and equally skillful tactics.  At one point during this nail-biter, Hoboken was in the lead, creating chaos from the bleachers.  Their support was heavy, causing Den of Lions to feel uneasy.  Hoboken fell short a couple of times in the defensive zone, allowing Den of Lions to fire an equalizer.  They seized another opportunity from Hoboken, and won the division qualifier, 9-8.  Den of Lions 1 ended up beating their regular-season teammates, Den of Lions 3, in the final game, winning the tournament.

YOUNG BOYS PREPARED FOR CHALLENGE

January 20, 2013
Morris Plains, NJ

It was a competitive day for the boys in the morning U9 3v3 turf tournament at Parisi Speed School.  The Roxbury Gunners, a flight 1 travel team, showed up with three teams, ready to bring their skill to the table.  Kaboom returned for another exciting, competitive U9 tournament against Hillsborough and the Young Boys.  All boys played tactful offense, scoring many goals, and making advanced moves all over the field.  Kaboom met the Young Boys in the finals, and although their aggressiveness and offensive play led them there, the Young Boys slipped past to win the tournament wit their exceptional passing and great footwork.  All boys did a commendable job, and they should be proud for playing in a high-level tournament.

GIRLS WITH AN EDGE

January 20, 2013
Chatham, NJ

Today's U11 Girls 3v3 futsal tournament started off very competitive with a 2-2 tie between the Ridge Mavericks Falcons and Mountain Lakes Edge.  Glen Ridge picked things up with a goal-filled match against the U10 Caldwell Crush, winners of the last U10 Girls turf tournament.  Caldwell stepped up their game against the Falcons, only losing by one goal.  It was a valiant effort by the younger team.

Edge played Glen Ridge in the last regular game, maintaining a solid defense against the undefeated team.  They stayed on their feet despite the size advantage of Glen Ridge, keeping the competition heavy.  Glen Ridge won the match by two goals, and they clinched the tournament title in the final game- a rematch for Edge.

HOBOKEN ALL STARS ARE STARS OF U8 TOURNAMENT

Short Sided Soccer’s U8 Girls 3v3 turf tournament last Sunday showcased returning talent from December 23rd’s intense futsal tournament. Hoboken made their reappearance with three teams, upping the ante against the other participants. Girls from Clark, Springfield, and Morris Plains brought their size and strength to the plate, which would suggest their ability to defeat the smaller teams. Hoboken disproved the crowd’s hypotheses by taking first place in both divisions. The girls in red won the tournament, playing their friends in the final game.

A GOOD DAY FOR ALL IN SDFC FAMILY

January 6, 2013
Morris Plains, NJ

In one of the most competitive tournaments Short Sided Soccer has had to date, eight teams relentlessly battled for victory.  Every team had a high level of talent, and they played as if they were in the world cup.  The Elite Plainfield Warriors were neck and neck with SDFC Gold in the first bracket, eliminating the fiery Kicker Crew and hard-working Montville 1 from making the finals.  Both teams played fiercely, and learned from their competition.  The Warriors faced SDFC in the division winner, with many shots on goal, and a final score of 8 to 6- SDFC.  The Warriors put up a respectable fight, but it was SDFC’s experience that may have slid them into the finals.

Clark Crushers, Montville 2, and Parsippany Bayern held on strong in their division, trying to bump out the SDFC Black.  SDFC chose not to concede defeat, and won the bracket with nine points.  They met their club teammates, SDFC Gold in the championship game.  Although it was a tight and entertaining match-up, Gold won the tournament.

RED BULLS BUCK UP A WIN

January 6, 2013

Morris Plains, NJ

The Morris United Red Bulls returned to Short Sided Soccer with not one, but two teams on Sunday.  Raring to go, both teams charged their competition with massive offense, scoring an impressive number of goals per game.  Marlboro Chaos shook the Red Bulls 2 with a startling defeat, opening everyone’s eyes.  Chaos became the team to beat, and took their fine-tuned play to the finals against Red Bulls 1.  Chaos led the game in the early minutes, which only made Morris United fight harder to climb ahead.  The Red Bulls ended the very tight game with a win, earning them the title of U8 Boys 3v3 champions.

Congratulations to all teams- Highland Heat, Fairview SAF, Marlboro Chaos, and Morris United Red Bulls for playing.
