KICKER CREW TAKES THE CAKE

U7 Boys: 3 to the right, U8 Boys: all

December 23, 2012
Chatham, NJ

After playing in two tournaments all day- U7 Boys and U8 Boys- the Kicker Crew claimed victory for both.  They played against some highly skilled teams- Parsippany, Branchburg, and Plainfield, just to name a few.  The boys were very proud of themselves for working hard all December to finally earn first place.  The wins certainly served as early Christmas gifts for the Kicker families.

SKELETONS CREEP INTO FINALS

December 23, 2012
Chatham, NJ

Eight U8 girls teams rallied for the top spot in Short Sided Soccer's December 23rd tournament.  Teams came from all over New Jersey- from Hoboken to Hillsborough- to play in this heavily talented competition.
Hoboken started the fight strong with a big win in the first game.  The gap began to close in the second game between the Skeletons and Hoboken All-Stars 2- an exciting 5-4 game.  Hoboken picked up their defense in game eight against Millburn, tying them 1-1.  Hoboken fell slightly short in their last game against Lady Kickers, allowing Millburn to take second place in their division.  The Skeletons took first in the same bracket, facing the determined Westfield ROU in the championship game.
Westfield put up a respectable fight in the final game, maintaining a solid defense.  It was the Skeletons, however, who rattled the crowd with a hard-earned 3-1 win.
Congratulations to all teams for successfully participating in their first futsal tournament.

DEMPSEY AND MADISON GET IT DONE

December 16, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

Short Sided Soccer hosted its largest U9 3v3 tournament on Sunday.  12 teams participated in this massive soccer event, which had to be split into morning and afternoon tournaments.

In the morning, SDFC Santos and Randolph won both of their first two games.  They later faced each other in their final game of their bracket, which determined who would advance. Both teams battled furiously for a chance to play in the championship game. It was SDFC Santos, who, with their on-point passing and determination, earned the win and a spot in the final.

Meanwhile, NJ Dempsey slipped past SDFC Corinthians, who fought hard to keep the score tight.  It wasn't until the closing minutes that Dempsey found the holes in SDFC's defense to pull a head with a 7-3 win. This hard-earned win energized them to win the rest of their games and make it to the end .

NJ Dempsey faced off against SDFC Santos in the final.  Both teams used Short Sided Soccer 3v3 to prepare them for the upcoming national Kick It 3v3 tournament.  NJ Dempsey turned on their afterburners and the boys were able to defeat last year's national champions, 7-0.

Madison Mavericks landed the championship title in the afternoon tournament against Parsippany Milan, Kaboom SA United, and Montclair Hurricanes.  Great jobs to all 12 teams!

FURY DEFEATS TEAMS IN PEACE

December 16, 2012
Chatham, NJ

The U14 girls teams involved in Sunday’s futsal tournament brought years of practice and skill for an exciting event.  Teams traveled from all over New Jersey to play in this explosive competition, and they certainly made the most out of their trips to Morris County.

Teams made up two brackets of four- both dexterous and tactful.  STA Fury 1 fired things up with a colossal win over the humble Morris United Revolution, followed by a division sweep against Arsenal Divas (Park Ridge) and Boca Mayhem (Brick).  Making it to the finals was no surprise, although their competition put on a good show.  The Arsenal- Morris United match was a close one, proving no fledglings came to play.  The game ended in 16 goals between both teams- a sure-fire crowd pleaser.

The other division consisted of STA Fury 2, Ocean Wildcats, Linden Diamonds, and Hackettstown Sparks.  All teams played with passion and determination, never letting Fury get to them.  With poise and professionalism, the girls played clean games, but all with one goal in mind- to beat STA.  Fury prevailed, however, and won both divisions, playing each other in the final.  The obviously friendly final between the two STA teams ended with medals for Fury 1, but a successful experience for all girls.

ROCKETS BLAST OFF TO FIRST PLACE

December 16, 2012
Chatham, NJ

The Florham Park Pride teams 1 and 2 arrived to yesterday’s U9 Girls futsal tournament with confidence and excitement.  Their competition, Chatham Lightning and Lenape Valley Impact put up a good fight, but it was the Randolph Rockets who took them by surprise.  The Pride 1 fired on all cylinders, aiming to clinch the tournament with their 3-1 record, and although the girls’ fight was mighty, the Rockets won their last game against Lenape Valley to give them a 4-0 record. The Rockets left as winners of the tournament.

All U9 teams played their hearts out in this new and unconventional style of soccer, excited to play again in the next tournament.  Congratulations to all teams who participated.

GIRLS TAKEN BY PIRANHAS’ BITE

December 16, 2012
Chatham, NJ

Six U11 Girls teams played in their first 3v3 futsal tournament yesterday at Chatham Day School.  The local Chatham Liberty teams joined the Millburn Piranhas and the Ridge Falcons in this high-action event.  Ridge turned on the competition right away with a 5 to 1 win against Liberty 1, followed by an exciting comeback from allegiant Liberty 2 against Millburn Piranhas 2.  Contention grew, however, in game four, as Liberty 2 and Liberty 3 battled for their division title- a close game of 5 to 3, Liberty 2 claiming victory.  Although Ridge managed to impress the crowd with their dynamic field play, they fell one game short of the Piranhas 1, and to playing in the first place game.  With great pace and an attacking mindset, Ridge tied Liberty 3 for second place.  The final score was 7 to 7.

Liberty 2 faced Piranhas 1 in the final, marking their opponents with precision and confidence.  Both teams held impervious defense, resulting in a 2-2 tie.  The teams’ strong efforts resulted in an intense shoot-out, leaving the Piranhas champions of this tournament.

UNDERDOGS NOT TOO CRUSHED IN THE END

December 9, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains

The Girls U10 Caldwell Crush came to do exactly that in this past weekend's 3v3 turf tournament in Morris Plains.  The girls capped a powerful start to the tournament with a 7-1 win over Randolph.  The Chatham Hearts, second in their division, brought the pain until they were beaten by Caldwell for their division title.

The other division's favorites were surprised to learn that power comes in small packages.  The U7 Boys Kicker Crew played up three levels to improve their game against the highly talented U10 girls.  Their first game was a shocker- a 3 to 3 tie against the Springfield Sonics.  The boys brought their advanced footwork to the field, cutting around the Sonics to have an almost 3-2 win.  The Sonics were able to get past the last Kicker with a goal that tied the game in the last second.  The Kicker Crew won their next two games, giving them seven points, winning their division.

Size did not intimidate the boys as they battled with fury in the final game against the Caldwell Crush.  The boys attacked with determination, quickness, and great amounts of ball rolling.  Not only was the competition high, but so was the entertainment.  Down 2-0, the Kicker Crew came back to tie the game up 4-4 in the last five minutes.  The girls did not allow for a tie-breaker as they scored their final and winning goal in the last two minutes of the game.  A rush of cheers filled the facility as the Caldwell Crush claimed victory.

Congratulations to all teams who played in this tournament: Mount Olive Cheetahs, Chatham Hearts, Randolph White & Blue, New Generation Crew, Springfield Sonics, Kicker Crew, and Caldwell Crush.

Our Next Girls U10 Tournaments: Sunday, Dec. 23rd (Futsal, Chatham) & Sunday, Feb. 10th (Turf, Morris Plains).

KICKER CREW CONQUERS STEPPING STONES

December 9, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains

After making it to the finals in the U7 Boys 3v3 turf tournament last weekend, the Kicker Crew continued to display excellence in the following U8 Boys tournament.  Improving as they played on, the boys were able to make it to the finals against the mighty Parsippany Bayern.  Giving all they had, they fell short only a couple of goals against the experienced team.  Even so, the boys held their heads high, and brought their passion to yesterday's U10 Girls tournament, succeeding to the finals, once again.  Their continuous hard work and game play is certainly anticipated to pay off as the weeks progress.

GIRLS PAINT THE TOWN GREEN

December 9, 2012
Chatham Day School, Chatham

Green Township was victorious in Short Sided Soccer's U13 Girls 3v3 futsal tournament. Green-faced Florham Park was the other undefeated team in the group.  The Florham Park Rockets took an early lead against the Mustangs, but with their determination and 3v3 experience, Green Township battled back to win the match 8-4.  It was an amazing tournament with teams all the way from Northern Counties participating.

LIGHTNING STRIKES OVER CHATHAM DAY SCHOOL

December 9, 2012
Chatham Day School, Chatham

The Florham Park Lightning met East Hanover United in the final match of the U14 Boys 3v3 tournament this past Sunday. It was a fast-paced, highly skilled tournament, where Florham Park walked away with Short Sided Soccer's first-ever U14 futsal championship.

U8 GIRLS ON FIRE

U8G Morris United Fire

December 9, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains

The Morris United Fire danced to victory after becoming undefeated in their bracket at the U8 Girls 3v3 turf tournament in Morris Plains.  The girls kicked off the tournament with an exciting, yet close match against the New Generation Crush, who proved to be great competition for the fiery team.  After a 2-1 win, the Fire picked it up by sweeping the remainder of the tournament with speed, precision, and strength.

They met the Lady Kickers in the finals, who surprised everyone with their skill and aggressiveness.  This U6 team, also with an undefeated record within their bracket, carried a fighting spirit that lent to their strong defense in the final game against the highly talented travel team.  Playing up an age level and in size, the girls hung in it, deflecting many goal-scoring opportunities from the Fire.  Morris United, however, used their experience to clinch the win, by a five-goal shut-out.

Congratulations to all teams for participating in the 3v3 tournament- New Generation Crush, Morris Plains Hurricanes, Roxbury Lemon Limes, Springfield Freedom, Lady Kickers, and Morris United Fire.

REDS PROVE TO BE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MATERIAL AT U9 LEVEL

December 2, 2012
Chatham Day School, Chatham

Six teams competed in Short Sided Soccer's first ever 3v3 futsal tournament, held at its new location- Chatham Day School.

Chatham, Summit, Liverpool, Madison, and two SDFC teams battled with intensity among skillful competition. SDFC, last year's 3v3 National champions, met Liverpool in the finals.  The last game was back and forth with amazing goals and footwork by both teams, but it was Liverpool who walked away with the gold. The final score was 7-5.  SDFC played up an age group in this tournament to prepare themselves for the Nationals in Florida next month, where they hope to defend their title.

PARSIPPANY BECOMES MORRIS COUNTY CHAMPS

Parsippany Bayern U8

December 2, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains

Following the U7 Boys tournament, the six local U8 Boys teams put on quite a show for their spectators.  The talent was high and very close among the U8 teams.  Division one's Kicker Crew led the pack with a 2-0 record over Morris United's Red Bulls and Morris Plains' Destroyers.  All teams played well, and congratulations to the Destroyers for participating in their first 3v3 turf tournament.

Division two consisted of Montville, STA, and Parsippany Bayern, who met the Kicker Crew in the finals.  STA hung in there with Montville, and tied for third place against neighbors, STA.  Despite Parsippany being down 1-0 to the Kicker Crew in the final, they fought hard and came back to win 5-2.

Thanks to all of the teams for a competitive and entertaining tournament!

FAR-AWAY TEAM WINS BOYS U7 3V3 TOURNAMENT

Branchburg Panthers

December 2, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains

Starting the winter tournament season off with a bang, six U7 Boys teams brought their will and determination to Parisi's turf field this past Sunday.  First up were the Kicker Crew versus the Panthers, all the way from Branchburg, NJ.  This competitive and close match was quite the nail-biter, leaving both teams proud of their performances.  South Orange, the up and coming team wearing green, battled the undefeated rec team- Randolph Galaxy- resulting in a 4-4 tie.  It was Chatham United, though, who clinched their division, and went head-to-head against Branchburg in the finals.  Although Branchburg took home the title, Chatham United played their best- and in their fashionable Argentina jerseys.  The Kicker Crew left with third, and Parsippany Bayern earned first place in the "best jerseys" category, wearing Croatia.

Thanks to all of the teams for participating, and to one of our loudest audiences yet for bringing the noise!

CREW PLAYS IT EASY LIKE BARCELONA

Sunday, March 18th, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

Short Sided Soccer's final Winter 3v3 tournament took place yesterday, with the returning Branchburg, Kicker Crew, and Morristown U7 Boys teams.  The four teams (two from Branchburg) battled it out to take the final championship title home... and to the website.  The Kicker Crew- the underdog throughout the Winter, picked up the pace, and proved that practice makes perfect by defeating the three other teams, and making it into the finals.  However, the talent was there- there almost was a 3-way tie by the end of the regular games.

Playing up in almost every tournament for the past three months aided in the Crew's victory, and their polished foot skills wowed the audience.  Players, Nicholas Andrinopolous, Alex Brandon, Nicholas Connors, and Stevan Patino fed off each other's want to win.  Their unforgettable play at one of the kick-offs and their nice-and-easy, Barcelona-style passing helped them claim a deserving first place in the tournament, winning the final game, 5-3.

Although the Crew went undefeated, Branchburg and Morristown did not make it easy for them- especially in the finals.  Branchburg brought the score up to 3-4, making the Crew very nervous, but still, determined to stay up on them.  Branchburg and Morristown had beaten the Crew in previous matches- this was only payback.

Yellow: Color of the Day

Sunday, March 11th, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

The U9 Girls 3V3 soccer tournament started off with a nail-biting game between Montville and Roxbury Yellow, ending in a close 4-5.  Next, the Kicker Crew (U7 Boys) took on Roxbury Purple, deafeating them 4-1, followed by another confident game against the Montville girls, winning 5-0.  Roxbury Yellow and Kicker Crew, both wearing yellow, earned their places in the Final game, which entertained the crowd with the high level of defense. Although the Crew's striker, Ted Rosenfeld, scored over half of the total goals in the tournament, the Crew fell two goals too short in the finals.  Roxbury Yellow succeeded in winning first place.

BLACK AND BLUE IN THE END

Sunday, March 4, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

Last weekend's Boys U8 six-team tournament brought many talented travel soccer teams together to battle for the U8 title.  The Randolph Raptors brought two teams, Marlboro brought the Mutiny back, Madison introduced the Mavericks, and NJSA and the Kicker Crew made a surprising comeback since their last tournament in February.

The Kicker Crew, made up of Aidan Paola, Alex Brandon, Stevan Patino, and Ted Rosenfeld, turned up the heat in a very competitive match among the six teams.  Winning their first two games (2-1, 6-2) and tying their third, they proudly made the playoffs, to battle the Randolph Raptors a second time.  The Raptors seeked redemption by winning the play-offs game 3-1 against the Kicker Crew.  The (Blue) Raptors later battled (Black) NJSA in the finals, who ended up taking first place in the tournament, with a perfect record- winning 5/5 games.

Each and every team worked very hard, and their skill and heart were recognized by the other teams and parents, for sure.

GIRL POWER GOES A LONG WAY

Sunday, February 26, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains, NJ

The four U8 Girls teams proved that big things come in small packages yesterday at the 3v3 soccer tournament in Morris Plains.
Bridgewater BSA Rage took on the local Lady Kickers (Pre K Kickers), Morris Plains SC, and Morristown's Pretty Girl Rock.  Although the three latter teams had younger and smaller players on them, they truly proved that the size of the person does NOT determine the size of her heart.
The Lady Kickers and Morris Plains SC fought through each and every game with everything they had, fighting the bigger girls off with defensive tactics.  Pretty Girl Rock made it to the finals against BSA, putting faith in their coach to guide them to victory.  It was BSA, though, who played mercilessly until the end, winning the championship title.

Favorite Quote of the Match:
Girl from BSA to Coach of Lady Kickers: "Your team looks good.  I like them."
Coach of Lady Kickers: "So you're gonna go easy on us?"
Girl from BSA: "Nope!"

Good girl!

NO SUBS, NO MERCY- MONTVILLE GLADIATORS MAKE IT HAPPEN

Sunday, February 19th, 2012.  Morris Plains, NJ.

The Boys U7 Super Six tournament started out with the Marlboro Mutiny taking on the Morristown Zebras, a very competitive game- the perfect opener for the competitive rounds to come.  Things started heating up during the cross-conference games, which would determine who would take first and second places in each division.  Marlboro Mutiny won the first place seed in their division, after a nail-biting cross-conference series, and later played in the finals against the Montville Gladiators- who played the entire tournament with only three players.  It was the three-man team who finally took home the medals.

Congratulations to all of the teams, Montville Gladiators, Marlboro Mutiny, Brick FC, Kicker Crew, Branchburg Panthers, and Morristown Zebras, for playing in a highly-competitive tournament that had families sitting on the edges of their seats.

RIVALS RUN THE SHOW

February 12, 2012, Morris Plains, NJ
The crowd roared with emotion last Sunday while rivals, Roxbury and Randolph went head-to-head in the finals of the U9 Girls 3V3 soccer tournament.

This six team tournament began with the two opponents, two teams each, and their friendly neighbor, Mount Olive (2 teams, as well).  The games were close, but it was Roxbury and Randolph who battled through until the end.  The Roxbury girls took home first place, but Randolph was certainly recognized.

This rivalry was the most intense, crowd-pleasing tournament yet for Short Sided Soccer.

SHORT SIDED SOCCER HOSTS SUPER SIX

Sunday, February 5th, 2012, Morris Plains, NJ
Yesterday's soccer tournament consisted of six star U8 Boys teams from all over New Jersey.  The undefeated Flight 1 Montvillle Gladiators took second place, while the well-renowned STA (Barca) won with a perfect record.  South Jersey's finest, NJSA (AC Milan) also participated, along with two other STA/Morristown teams and a newbie to Short Sided Soccer, Jefferson United.  The games were very close with scores like 4 to 3 and 5 to 3, proving it to be great ( and fair) competition.
We look forward to welcoming these teams back in March for a re-match!

UNDENIABLE TALENT, UNDEFEATED.

Sunday, January 29, 2012

The Girls U10 Tournament followed the U8 tournament with bigger girls, and bigger hearts.  The tone of this tournament was very serious, which is understandable, considering the great amount of talent that was there.  The games were high-scoring, but the defense was still there.  The winners, STA Heat, scored no less than eleven goals per game, withheld great defense, making it difficult for the other teams to match their goal differential.

Despite the "heat" STA brought, Roxbury and Parsippany teams fought hard until the end.  There is no doubt that these teams will be back for a re-match.

HOME TEAM CLAIMS ITS TERRITORY

Sunday, January 29, 2012: Randolph, NJ
Four U8 Girls teams battled it out (non-competitively of course) at Athletic Republic on Randolph grounds.  All teams did exceptionally well, making each game count.  It was the Randolph Rockets, though, who managed to win it all, beating out tough competitors such as Pretty Girl Rock (from Morristown) and the New Generation teams (Livingston).  Thanks to Coach Tammy for bringing the girls to the tournament, to show everyone what their town's made of!

CLOSE GAMES MAKE CROWD CLENCH TEETH

January 22, 2012, Randolph, NJ

The first 3V3 tournament on Sunday was the Boys U7.  The competition was very close among most of the teams, but it was SDFC Santos that went undefeated.  Although it was a non-competitive tournament, the children gave it all they had.  Thanks to Montville, SDFC Santos, Kicker Crew, Florham Park Celtics, and Chatham Kickers for a fun tournament.

The latter half of the day consisted of intense 3V3 play by U9 boys teams, Mount Olive Green Bulls (1 and 2), STA Barca, NJSA AC Milan, and STA Lawlor.  STA Barca took the lead for most of the tournament until AC Milan's last game, where they tied up the ranking with STA Barca.  In order for STA Barca to clinch first place, a win or a tie was necessary.  Otherwise, losing by two points would have dropped them to second place.

They played a heavy and crucial game against STA Lawlor, keeping the crowd on the edges of their seats.  The score was tied up until the very last minute, when STA Barca powered the final, winning goal.  All of the games were heart-thumping and nerve-racking, showing the true talent among all of the teams.

PARSIPPANY GENESIS PICKS UP A WIN

January 15, 2012, Randolph, NJ
The Parsippany Genesis U10 Girls team rose to the top at this past weekend's U9 Girls 3V3 Tournament.  Although they played down a level, it was great practice for them before the Spring season.  Much to some spectators' surprise, the competition was high among the teams, despite the age difference.  The U9 teams consisted of two Mount Olive groups and one Kinnelon team.  The Kicker Crew played up two levels in this tournament, and actually landed third place.  It was Parsippany, however, who showed their strength and experience, climbing to the top with a total of 12 points.
The Parsippany Genesis will return in two weeks to compete again.

MONTVILLE GLADIATORS TAKE HOME THE GOLD

Five New Jersey teams participated in this past weekend's Boys U8 3V3 soccer tournament.  They all came with the intent of getting good practice in before the Spring season, and left with just that and more.  Short Sided Soccer thanked Montville, Randolph White, Randolph Blue, Briarwood, and the Kicker Crew for a spectacular show of pure entertainment and talent.
Montville ended up winning the tournament with 12 points- an undefeated record.
